St. Mary’s Church in New Haven, Connecticut, is closely connected to both Blessed Michael McGivney and the organization he founded, the Knights of Columbus
It is a place of prayer and pilgrimage where Father McGivney (1852-1890) is entombed in the church’s nave. Visitors from around the world come to St. Mary’s to honor the humble parish priest in the church where he founded the Knights of Columbus in 1882. They pray at the tomb, asking Father McGivney’s intercession for their needs and thanking God for favors received through those appeals.
Although a popular pilgrimage destination, open to visitors from 7 AM to 7 PM, St. Mary’s Church remains an active Catholic church. It is combined with several other Catholic churches in the city as a parish under the patronage of Blessed Michael McGivney.
St. Mary’s maintains a regular schedule of Masses and confessions, but also serves the needs of its parish community with baptisms, weddings, funerals, religious education, religious devotions, and related events. The McGivney Center staff will assist you plan visits to St. Mary’s Church. Parking is on street and metered.
